We ArE SiCK OF TErrOr aND GenOCIDe

The palestinians elect a Hamas-based goverment. The Iranians continue building up their nuclear program and sabre-rattling about their intentions. The middle east is coming alive in dangerous ways for our neighbors to the south, and to a lesser extent for us.

I suppose my question is:

Why shouldn't Iran have the same capacity Israel does to turn each other's countries into uninhabitable parking lots? With the palestinian people nestled in amongst the Jewish people what Islamic nation is going to toss a nuke? How does it affect the balance of power to grant them the same capability for wanton destruction as the major powers of the world?

To some extent though if Israel loses it's technological advantage (i.e. you invade us with conventional forces and we'll turn your cities into large flat glass sculptures), they do become a target for conventional invasion. In this event they are still vastly outnumbered even though it didn't matter much in previous wars. If Israel fires nukes at Iran, Iran will certainly fire back without regard to Palestinian casualties - there are far more Iranians that Palestinians though their sacrifice would assuredly be mourned by the leadership as a necessary but sad event.

It's not really Israel the western world is alarmed about. It's the risk that a "regime that backs terrorism" could develop the technology to deliver a nuclear bomb to the USA and it's allies. Oops. Shouldn't have used those guys as the tail wagging the dog for so many years....now look at what you've done.

Terrorism is a fucked up word when applied in this fashion though. The USA has used assasination, black mail, strategicly placed bombs and snipers before. Who do they get off calling terrorist?

Still the threat is becoming real. When you back someone like the USA into a corner, it's entirely possible that you'll see a vicious response.

If you fell asleep today and woke up in 10 years, what shocks would the world hold for you? Maybe it's time for me to set a reminder to check in 10 years....too bad you couldn't encapsulate how the world looks - the changes wash over our consciousness and seem very natural over time as opposed to the rude shock of the waking sleeper.
